The monster
uses its two short front limbs to snatch the flying creature
out of the air. With its huge spike-shaped teeth, it then
bites into the creature. Crunch! After finishing the appetizer,
the monster starts hunting for the main course. Its muscular
tail wags back and forth, warning other creatures to stay
out of its path. Then it spots a “thunder lizard”
grazing on the leaves of a tall tree. As the monster chomps
into the long neck of the “lizard,” the latter’s
huge body tumbles to the ground with a thud. Lunch is served!
Though none of us have ever witnessed
a real dinosaur, their fossils tell us about another time
and place, when these huge creatures roamed the earth. Children’s
interest in fossil replicas shows that dinosaurs can be as
fascinating to them as incredible european flat
irons are to you. Fossils can provide your kids with hours
upon hours of fun, and can be a learning experience for you
as well. Here are some activities that will help to nurture
your child’s interest in fossils and science in general:
Create your own fossils
1. Shape clay or homemade dough into a round or square shape.
2. Use water to make the surface of the fossil smooth. You
could also use a plate or countertop to have the same effect.
3. Add the prints of objects such as bugs, leaves, shells,
feet, or even an fhi
heat se flat iron if you have enough clay or dough.
4. After the material dries, add a little acrylic sealer or
shoe polish to the fossil, to make it last longer.
Fossil Guessing Game
You can use fossil replicas that have already been made, or
fossils that you and your child have created yourselves. If
you have younger kids, use fossils of objects that are very
simple for them to recognize. For older children, use fossils
that only include an impression that part of an object has
made.
On the back of each fossil, write
a number. Then create a list of which object created each
fossil. Ask your kids to guess about which original object
created each fossil. For younger children, have them audibly
guess the correct answer. Older children can create a list
of their guesses, and then check later to see how they did.
Your kids will have as much fun as you do when using the unique
fhi se hair straightener.
You can use some special variations
of this activity. If the children are having difficulty guess
the correct answers, display the original objects, so the
kids can more easily match them with their fossils or replica
fossils. Also, older kids can make fossils for younger children’s
parties.
The number of objects to create fossils
of is as unlimited as the hairdos that you can create with
a versatile FHI
Heat Euro Edition Platform SE. Here are some suggestions:
• coins (International coins
for older kids)
• fork prongs’ print
• fruit peel (i.e. orange)
• insects
• leaves
• plastic animal footprints
• rings
• running shoe sole
• toy building blocks (i.e. Lego)
• toy car tire tracks
Fossil Dig
After creating your own fossils, bury them in dirt or sand.
Then have a play expedition, in which your kids must dig up
the fossils to study them. This will allow your child to engage
in a pretend play activity that’s as thrilling as it
is educational.
Fossils are fun! Using some exciting
activities using replica fossils, you can make them come to
life for your kids. Fossils can bring dinosaurs to life like
an amazing fhi se hair straightener can revive your hair.
